Here is the event calendar for the next 3 weeks,
https://www.gagb.org.uk/Events/Events030214.pdf
42 events coming up, including a special get together (GC4XB8V) to welcome Sarah Leonard (Snoopy Is Boss) back to the game. Hopefully by then she will also have found her 4000th find!
There are 3 intriguing events in Liverpool, London and Dublin but many more across the world - Love Love...Geocaching.
So there is lots and lots up and down the countries to get involved in - where will you go?

Over 50 events in the next three weeks. Great to see a couple of CITOs in there and expect to see more as people finalise plans for the worldwide CITO weekend on the 26th and 27th April.
There's a new Severn Bore viewing event, which will hopefully go to plan this time. And I'd love love love someone to give some feedback on what is happening at the Love Love...Geocaching events this week.

Have a great week!

Shame about the calender not being update now, I personally find it easier to look at a specific date on a calender than to browse through a long list. Really this is no different to the GroundSpeak email with the events listed.

A lot easier to read on this than the email.

The calender is very time consuming and if the committee are doing their job, far better things to spend their limited free time on.

I find the calendar easier to use - you can see exactly what's happening on a specific day and plan ahead. I find it particularly helpful when planning camping weekends etc, the email doesn't allow you to do this. I would like to see the calendar back in use.

Once again, less than 8% of members use the calendar with any sort of regularity making the time consuming effort in producing it pretty futile, especially when the detail is available in many other places.

I agree, it can be useful to see it as a calendar and for that reason I use the GSAK macro which allows me to take my events database and export it into my Outlook calendar. Unfortunately that simple method cannot be replicated onto this website but I am happy to talk anyone through the process to do it themselves.

The full events database will be published in Seeker when it comes out. With camping events being published further in advance than most other events, hopefully that will give you the additional detail you are missing.

Here is the next 3 weeks of event detail. An event to welcome SnoopyIsBoss back to the game after the cow incident, on Wednesday (GC4XB8V) and a good walk up a hill to a remote cache location on Sunday (GC4WC83). More and more CITO's are being published too. Why not let us know where you are going?

Thank you for replying - unfortunately I don't use GSAK - I've tried but find it confusing, not being IT savvy :( and I cannot afford to pay for it's use. I know that my GC buddy also used the calendar to look for events in areas out of our notification area - we will miss it.

An idea, are you able to open this in Outlook, or any other program that uses iCal? Perhaps start a new calendar first. Note it isn't the most up to date version but if it works and people want it I am happy to upload it periodically

FYI, 28 events were published in the last week alone. Updating them all to the old calendar would have taken ages.

Thank you :socool: - I can see a few events that we might be able to attend :). I can appreciate the time it would take to upload all the events and I can understand why the decision was made to change it. I suppose if we do a regular search for events nationwide we would pick any new ones up - just laziness on our part :o. I will also take another look at GSAK, I see there's a FB page that offers help and advice on how to use it. Thanks again for your help.

If it is useful to people I am quite happy to put the calendar link on at the same time as the pdf

The next issue of Seeker (19) has an article about GSAK (due out 1st March)

Apologies for the slight delay, illness yesterday prevented us getting it out on time...

This weekend gives another opportunity to see the Severn Bore, a 4* this time. Not sure what the water levels are like down there now but hopefully it will be a better show than earlier this month.

A couple of CITO events are coming up, does anyone have any plans to attend?

Let us know what you are up to!

Good morning.

Here are your next 3 weeks worth of events. It had been hoped to incorporate a full event list into Seeker but at 134 current events across Great Britain and Ireland, it is just too many to include and maintain the theme of the magazine.

Therefore we have added additional events to this listing, namely CITOs, highlighted green, Camping Events (at least the ones that have "camp" in their listing name), in yellow and Megas in purple. Hopefully that will help those of you that like to plan ahead.

I've seen some of the pictures from the latest Severn Bore event but would love to know how it went from some of the attendees - any feedback?

Have a great week, let us know what you get up to!

@richlay, as one of the co-hosts of the Severn bore event I'd have to say that for my first ever event, it all went pretty well.

We were treated to a decent bore, although it being 15 minutes early meant a few attendees almost missed it! There's some video of it linked to in a note I've posted on the cache page.

We had cachers from Gloucestershire and beyond attend (Oxford, Swindon, Redditch and elsewhere) and even one US chap who was in Bristol and popped up to join us.

For me, it was good to chat with people I'd only known up to them as names on log books or cache pages and reinforced what I already knew, in that the caching community is a diverse but at the same time inclusive and a very welcoming one.

There was lots of cake around and some lovely homemade sausage rolls, as well as some interesting coins and trackables on show.

A couple of people have awarded it 'virtual favourite points' in their logs, so it seems I'm not alone in my view of how it all went.

Here is the listing for the next 3 weeks. Almost 50 events were added to the calendar over the last 7 days with Maker Madness, CITO and WWFM events all being listed. This week sees a fun event in the North West to celebrate "Pi Day" and the 14th Brew With A View event up Pendle Hill, where I should be grabbing my 4,000th cache.

Have a great week and why not let us know what you get up to?

Another 35 events have been added to the event list https://www.gagb.org.uk/events.php

But that is nothing. And the reason that this announcement is 24 hours late is due to another brilliant piece of work from Cass.

THE CALENDAR IS BACK!

Cass has done some witchcraft and been able to create a calendar from a basic CSV file that has hugely simplified the whole process and made the compilation take seconds instead of hours. Each event is clickable and will take you to the cache page and we are currently working (well, Martyn is ;) ) to sort out the county data so we will no longer need to use regional locations. When you hover over a day, a pop out box will list every event on that date. It is also formatted for printing and looks great. We hope you love it like we do. And use it!

You can find it here https://www.gagb.org.uk/events-calendar.php

As ever, any constructive feedback is welcome. Lots of enhancements happen as a result of "you know what would look great...?" type comments. And a massive thanks and well done to Cass for a job well done.

Have a great week and let us know what you get up to!

Keep forgetting to update this thread...

I've just added 24 events to the calendar, published over the last 6 days.

There are 54 WWFM events in the UK and Ireland on the 7th June. It looks like it will smash the records set in 2013 which in turn smashed the records from the years previous. I've just ordered a smashing looking coin from http://www.coinsandpins.com/geocoins/flash-mob-coins/wwfm-flash-mob-xi-event-geocoin#.U4dEIHJdWSp

There is a CITO event this weekend in Southport. I'm sure Irene and Clare would love to see you and no doubt sell you some Piratemania stuff too! http://coord.info/GC51YGC

Have a great week and let us know what you get up to.

Over 20 new events have just been added to the listing, including a special event to remember and celebrate the life of a much loved Yorkshire cacher that was lost recently. http://coord.info/GC56YJ7
This week sees Jacaru's 24 hour caching events - who is going? Care to share your strategy?
The events list can be found here https://www.gagb.org.uk/events.php

The event list has just been updated after a week away enjoying the delights of Ayrshire.

With 6 weeks to go and with 6 CITOs listed, let's have a look at what we aim to achieve on GAGB weekend.

We want to step away this time from the litter picking that CITOs tend to be and focus on the conservational side of the events that often get overlooked.

First to be published, was Chair of the GAGB, Maple Leaf with her event near Weston-Super-Mare http://coord.info/GC55ZCJ

At this event, participants will be shown how to Mow a Meadow, using scythes!

Slader’s Leigh, Local Nature Reserve, is a limestone flower meadow with many lowland limestone wild flowers; the habitat is maintained by cutting and raking the vegetation at the end of the summer flowering.

The Mendip Society is very dependent on volunteer help and this year we hope that there will be lots of geocachers to help scythe and rake the 1.7 acres as this is the most eco friendly way to manage the meadow.

If you would like to try your hand at this safe, rhythmic, relaxing countryside skill there will be expert scythers on hand to help and encourage you, with easy to use, light weight Austrian scythes.

However, if you don't want to scythe, then you will be able to help rake up and move the cuttings.

There is a bookmark list with all the GAGB CITO events listed here https://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.aspx?guid=cbe8b5f9-0b94-4176-ad08-7108b02321a2 but we would love to see lots more icons pop up across the country. If you are interested in hosting your own on the weekend of 13th/14th September, either make a note in the forums or get in touch with us at gagbcommittee@gagb.org.uk

who do you tell of events which are not on the calendar?

I just had a look at it and there are a few missing that I know about....

Do you know, I meant to update it last night but I clean forgot. The file is ready waiting to upload and I'll do it as soon as I get settled tonight. It has a last updated date on it so as long as your event was published after that, it should be picked up. Let me know if it isn't though!

I have just looked at the calendar so I can fill my new diary with dates of events, and it is almost blank event though it says it was last updated on the 4th January.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Ah, I see what you mean - loads of events have disappeared. Rich (or Cass - as is part of website) will need to investigate - looks like it is using an old file from October 2014.

Hi Karen, thanks for using the calendar.
I suspect this is out of my skill set, I know that the update on the 4th worked as I checked my own event had gone on to the site and it had.
Is Cass aware?
